Anouk Préfontaine

Watch System Error

Anouk PréfontaineBorn in Montreal in 1968, Anouk Préfontaine was a graphic designer before studying animation at Concordia University. She won the Kodak award for her student film Biquette, made with salt and pepper and shot under-camera, and in her final year won the Norman McLaren Award. Her first professional independent film, Oh Lord, has been screened at SAFO, the Cinémathèque Québécoise, at Hiroshima 2000, as well as in Vietnam and in Estonia. It is also featured on the video compilation Absolutely Independent released by ASIFA-Canada. Oh Lord won the Best Director Award at the International Festival of Cartoon and Comics in Dervio, Italy. Mutations is her second independent production and it also won the Best Director Award at Dervio. In System Error, a film about the commercial aspect of water and the role of water plays in our daily tasks, Préfontaine has broken away from her traditional animation tools of paper and pencil and moved into a mixed media whirlwind world of hyperactive animated collage.
