Hothouse 8: March 05 - May 25, 2012

Carrie Mombourquette

Watch Meltdown

With the last of the arctic ice disappearing, a polar bear decides to try his luck finding a job in the big city. It’s hard fitting into the human world, however, and so this bear finds a more creative solution to his original predicament.

This is Carrie’s first professional film and it was made for Hothouse 8, the NFB’s program for emerging filmmakers, whose central theme was “Sheep Dreams”.

Animator, illustrator, daydreamer, nervous joker, social network addict: Carrie Mombourquette has been filling her notebooks with sketches and comics since she was knee high to a pinecone. She works with pencils, puppets, plasticine and paper, while taking steps towards finding digital and analog harmony. She currently resides in Vancouver, B.C. and holds a degree in Animation from the Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Her graduating film,Basic Space, has been screened at festivals including the TIFF student showcase, Edmonton International Film Festival, and Air Canada’s Enroute festival. Carrie spends her time in parks and coffee shops trying to come up with ideas for the “best webcomic ever”, and will tell her stories to anyone willing to sit down and listen. She’ll even buy the coffee.
