Hothouse 8: March 05 - May 25, 2012

Rosa Aiello

Watch Flee

SYNOPSIS
A man wakes in a sea of sand dunes. He clutches a metal suitcase as if it holds something of great value. In the distance looms a distorted and inhuman city from which the man has apparently fled. An experiment in science-fiction/mystery, Flee wonders how many possible histories and possible futures can be implied in a single minute.

Flee was was made for Hothouse 8, the NFB’s program for emerging filmmakers, whose central theme was “Sheep Dreams”.

BIOGRAPHY
Rosa Aiello is interested in the various types of infinity, chaos, and complex systems, and how they might manifest in narrative structure and other forms of representation. She recently finished her Master’s degree at Oxford University, where she wrote her thesis on the political and interpersonal implications of notions of infinity. She hopes to find in her animations the place where physics, politics, and emotions meet. Is a broken heart like the unpredictable turbulence of hurricane winds? Is patriotic zeal like the swirling gaseous red spot of Jupiter?
